3. British Liner Lusitania, 1915

  • Date of Ship Wreck: The British liner sank in the year 1915.
  • Place of Wreck: The Wreckage took place near the Irish coast.
  • Goods carried: The British Liner carried more than 1,500 passengers. Some accounts suggest that the Civilian British liner was carrying ammunition along with it.
  • Cause of Wreck: A German submarine attacked and forced the massive ship to touch the ground of the sea bed. A single torpedo shot made it sink in few hours.
  • Loss of Human Life: Approximately 1,200 passengers died in the catastrophe.
  • Economic Loss: A heavy loss for the British Government and a cause of American entry to the World War I.
  • Salvage:  No such record for salvage of the wreckage observed.
